EXPLANATION:

Danny Seraphine plays a fluid four bar break leading to the CODA (ending section) of "Make Me Smile". I used this transcription to remember the fill for the group London Rhythm & Soul Review and the sticking used was easiest for me to execute on the fly.

The rhythms in the first measure represent the accents played during an alternate sticking 16th note roll using ghost notes. It's easier to read the rhythms on the fly rather than trying to identify the accents in straight 16th note groupings.

The "fp" dynamic for the floor tom roll ending indicates an accented start to the roll followed by "ppp" (pianissimo = as quiet as you can). "Crescendo poco a poco" means "get louder little by little" throughout the last measures. Maintaining a consistent dynamic roll for four measures is a lot longer than you think, so relax and save the loudest part for the last three beats. When first playing this ending I would peak out the volume too early making it very hard to sustain the roll at fff = fortissimo = very loud.
