Building Double stroke Technique

  1. Begin the stroke with the stick tips up and your hand closed loosely around the sticks.

  2. "Throw" the first stick at the drum head by flattening your wrist and keeping your hand closed.

  3. When the stick tip strikes the head keep your wrist in the flat position; and open your middle, ring, and pinky fingers allowing the stick to bounce up.

  4. For the second stroke keep your wrist in the flat position and close your open fingers to strike the drum again.

  5. Then anticipate the second stroke's bounce by bending the wrist back ahead of the stick. "Catch" the stick at the top of the second stroke by closing your hand again.
