This track is a classic example of funk drumming roots. The groove has been used and reused over the years since it was recorded May 1967. If you want to learn more about Cold Sweat Pt. 1 and other classic James Brown's rhythm section grooves and arrangements check out this book:

The Funk Masters: The Great James Brown Rhythm Sections 1960-1973 by Allan "Dr. Licks" Slutsky and Chuck Silverman. Alfred Publishing Co., Inc.

My friend Andy Linderman introduced me to Clyde Stubblefield before a Tuesday night jam at Club DeWash in Madison, WI. When we walked in Clyde was shooting pool. The first thing Clyde did was drop the pool cue, shake my hand and give me his business card saying, "Hey Ted, if you ever need a sub just give me a call." I was gobsmacked! He said it like we were players in the same league! We sat down for a drink and I soon discovered Clyde Stubblefield - the funky drummer - was an easy going and engaged human being.
